Wentling Farms

Wentling FarmsWentling Farms is located in Sugarcreek Township between Brewster and Navarre. It is owned and operated by Bob and Gloria Wentling, and Bill, Jennifer, and Matthew Wentling. A  son, Andy, also helps run the business while working for Leppo Rents, Inc. at Canton. Farming has been a way of life for our family for many generations. Bob’s great grandfather originally moved to the Wilmot area from Pennsylvania in the late 1800’s purchasing ground which is now a part of the town of Wilmot. In 1942, Bob’s parents purchased the farm on Baymere Avenue, just east of Brewster. That farm is still a part of the operation and is where Andy resides. Bob and Gloria bought the farm on Pigeon Run in 1975, which is the site of your farm visit and their present home.

We farm close to 1,000 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, and oats. We also do some custom planting, harvesting, and round baling for other area farmers. Over the years we have had to adjust out farming practices from conventional tillage to more conservation and no-till farming in order to conserver and improve the soil and to be more cost effective.

Wentling FarmsOn your visit to our farm, you will see our grain drying and holding setup. You will be able to see how we can load trucks in less than 15 minutes. There is a new fertilizer containment facility, mandated by the government, which was constructed this summer to hold our fertilizer tanks. Other items of interest we plan to have here during your visit are Haley Farms Simmental cattle, Tonn’s Apiaries of Massillon, and a representative fro the Soil and Water Conservation office. You will also have an opportunity to purchase fall decorations such as mums, pumpkins, and gourds. The Green Valley 4-H Club will have a lunch stand where you may purchase refreshments if you like.

The Wentlngs have two more children besides Bill and Andy mentioned above. Their daughter Pam is married to Mike Haley and lives close to West Salem on the family farm. Pam is a Crop Insurance Adjuster and helps Mike with the farm. They raise Simmental cattle which will be on display during the tour. Our other son, Rick, is married to Katie and lives in Newark, Delaware. Rick and Katie are both Chemical Engineers and employed by the DuPont Company. They enjoy coming home to help on the farm every chance they get.

Our farm is a family affair and we feel blessed because of it. We love this way of life and wouldn’t change it for anything. We would like to show you why it is special to us, so come and join us on the Stark County Farm Tour.
